FDA announces recall of 1 million pounds of pistachio products from Setton Farms.

San Francisco, CA (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov announced on Monday, Setton Farms of Terra Bella, Inc., announced a voluntary recall of 1 million pounds of pistachio products. The nationwide recall by the California based food distribution company was implemented when a commercial customer alerted Setton Pistachio that an amount of pistachio products purchased in September 2008 tested positive for Salmonella.

Pistachio company executives are asking businesses who received bulk product and have further processed, repackaged, or distributed the affected products to recall those food products and contact the FDA. Salmonella is a bacteria known to cause serious and even fatal infections in infants, children, frail, elderly and consumers with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may also become ill from Salmonella food poisoning.
