Forth Worth, TX—Teenagers street-racing along West Long Avenue kills one teenager and critically injuries another. The fatal crash happened on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 2:00 a.m., as reported by the Star-Telegram.
According to police, a Mustang and a white four-door car were street racing on West Long Avenue heading westbound when both cars lost control during the race. The out-of-control Mustang struck a utility pole, over turned and landed on its roof. The white four-door car, which was traveling on the wrong side of the road during the race, skidded across the median and came to a stop. The driver of the Mustang reportedly ran from the accident scene, and has not been found. Police officials believe the driver of the Mustang may have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The passenger in the back seat of the Mustang, Victor Jaquez-Florez, 17, of Fort Worth was pronounced dead at the accident scene by responding emergency medical service (EMS) crews. The passenger in the front seat of the Mustang was transported by EMS personnel to John Peter Smith Hospital in Forth Worth for treatment of his critical injuries sustained in the fatal crash. Police officials reported they found numerous alcohol beverage containers inside the Mustang.
