Legal news for Oklahoma automobile accident attorneys. A school bus hit and dragged a man in a wheelchair.

Oklahoma automobile accident lawyers alert- A school bus crashed into a motorized wheelchair and left the man with road rash.

Altus, OK—A disabled man was hit and dragged by a school bus for more than 20 feet. The incident happened on Thursday, October 8, 2009, while leaving the Altus Fire Department’s fire safety Clown Show at the City Auditorium, as reported by KFSM.

According to police officials, a disabled man in a motorized wheelchair was struck and dragged by a school bus. A school bus along with several other school buses were lined up to leave the Altus Fire Department’s fire safety Clown Show at a red light, when the man drove his motorized wheelchair across the street. The first school bus in line to exit the City Auditorium pushed the man, and then dragged him nearly 23 feet before coming to a stop. Students riding in the school bus saw the man being dragged, and yelled for the driver to stop the bus. The man sustained serious road rash from the crash.

He was transported by emergency medical services (EMS) crews to a local hospital for treatment, after he initially refused medical treatment. The identity of the man is currently unknown. The school bus driver was cited by police officials for failure to yield to a pedestrian. Reportedly, no students on the bus were injured. Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the crash.
