Colorado criminal lawyers alerts- A secretary at Palmer Elementary School is facing criminal charges after duct taping a student.

Denver, CO—A Denver Public Schools secretary is facing criminal charges after duct taping a first grade student’s mouth shut, and taping his hands together. The secretary is charged with child abuse and false imprisonment, as reported by the Denver Post.

According to police officials, a Palmer Elementary School secretary identified as Jennifer Carter, 44, was arrested after duct taping a 6-year-old student’s mouth shut and taping his hands together. The student, Joshua Tenner, was reportedly sent to the principal’s office on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 for disruptive behavior in class. Carter was charged with child abuse and false imprisonment, which are both misdemeanors.

Ashlye Tenner, Joshua’s mother, stated she found out about the incident through her son. No one from the school reportedly notified her of the cruel and unusual punishment. Palmer Elementary School principal stated she became aware of the punishment when she came back from outdoor recess, and noticed the duct tape over the boys mouth and hands, and then she immediately ordered the duct tape to be removed. Carter is currently on paid leave from the school district pending an investigation. The Denver Public Schools reported they plan to immediately fire the secretary. The boy’s mother plans to remove her some from Palmer Elementary.
