Shelby County, IN—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a semi-truck and a full size passenger van left two people dead and 17 others injured on Sunday morning, January 24, 2010. The two-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 65, according to reports by WTHR.com, MSNBC news affiliate.
Eyewitnesses on the scene reported that both vehicles were traveling north on I-65 when the van allegedly tried to enter the shoulder of the roadway, subsequently being struck in the rear by the big rig. The impact reportedly caused the van to careen off the roadway and overturn. Witnesses also allegedly noted that the semi driver was seemingly swerving slightly prior to the crash.

Two passengers’ injuries proved fatal at the scene and 16 others were transported to hospitals including Columbus Regional Hospital, Johnson County Memorial Hospital, and Methodist Hospital, for treatment by medical professionals. Passengers suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical in the wreck. The semi driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Johnson County Hospital as well. Toxicology results are pending as accident investigators work to find out what may have caused the deadly two-vehicle crash.
