Marshall County, AL—A man suffered serious injury in a fiery ultralight aircraft crash on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. The ultralight aviation accident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. near Albertville, Alabama, according to information provided by WAFF.com.
An ultralight plane, being flown by Grove Oak, Alabama pilot, Wendell Evans, was allegedly downed just short of it’s designated landing area. The crash occurred in Marshall County, Alabama, near Bethel Road in the Ashbury Community. Ashbury Volunteer Fire Department officials responded to the scene allegedly stating, “We had a scary moment. The plane really caught fire on the ground between his legs and he was soaked in gas, and thank the good Lord, it didn’t ignite him.”
Fire rescue personnel extricated the injured man and airlifted him to Huntsville Hospital via emergency medical helicopter. He was listed in stable condition at the medical center. The man allegedly may have fractured his legs as well as suffered internal injuries in the ultralight aircraft accident and was reported fortunate to be alive. It currently unknown what factors may have caused the ultralight aircraft to crash short of its landing strip. Marshall County Sheriff’s Department police officials are currently conducting investigations into the ultralight airliner wreck.
