Las Vegas – A woman is accusing The Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino in Las Vegas of pregnancy discrimination after purportedly being subjected to mistreatment at work and being told she was terminated from her job for using “bye bye” instead of “goodbye” in a phone conversation. As reported by ABC News, Melodee Megia, who worked at the resort from November 2010 to September 2011, has filed a discrimination lawsuit as well as a class action lawsuit against the hotel.
The class action suit claims employees were not provided proper compensation for time spent picking up and putting on uniforms on site in accordance with the hotel’s policies, among other allegations.
Mark Thierman, an attorney for Megia is quoted in the report as stating in reference to the treatment of service workers in the state, “Service workers are not protected… Nevada has a misconception that ‘right to work’ means ‘right to abuse,’ when it really means workers don’t have to join a union.”
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opened in 2010.
