I had mentioned earlier that folks at Google never rest. They amend, change stuff quite so often, test the changes and implement these in the best interest of the people who love to Google for information.

This time, Google tests the changes in the display settings of the search results page. Google extends the length of the Title Tag and the Descriptions tag. The users will however benefit as they now have more descriptive title tags and longer Meta Description tag generating a more learned click on a particular search result.

The length of the Title Tag has risen to 71 Characters and the Meta Description tags has gone up by 100 characters per line.

“Google has made a significant change to its search results pages by extending the length of titles and descriptions. This was first spotted by Ross Hudgens on Twitter, and later reported on by Jennifer Slegg at The SEM Post.Here’s What Has Changed

Title tags have been increased to 70–71 characters, which is up from its previous 50–60 characters. That’s at least enough to fit in another word or two.

Meta descriptions have been increased by 100 characters per line, and extended from two to three lines. That’s a significant increase, and presents far more of an opportunity to tell searchers what the page is about.

Slegg reports that Google is still truncating the descriptions to two lines for many search results still, so you may still see them coming in at around 160 characters at times. When a three line snipped is displayed they come in at 278 characters per line.”

Google has done this for its users but there is something in this change from which the business owner can benefit from.

We were usually short of words when we had to make a Title tag in 50 to 60 characters. Creating a short title tag was challenging as we needed to articulate a relevant title tag that would be liked by the search engine and would be clickable at the same time.

Effective Title Tags and the Meta Description Tags can do wonders, if they are not the spammy ones. If not made properly, this can bring an unpleasant effect into your overall search visibility.

So, what do we know about the Meta Title Tags and the Meta Description Tags? Let’s be more explicit about these HTML tags and how can these be helpful in optimizing our websites for search engines.

Initially to the newcomers, these seem simple words that contextually explain your web page content. Some of the HTML coders just put the page title as the page menu like “Home”, “ “About”,  etc.  Doing this drains the benefits that they could derive by creating something more interesting. Drawing a title tag that could be liked by the search engines and also explains the page to the users when they come across the title tag in the SERPs.

If not done properly, the business owners deprive themselves from getting more people to come to their websites and lose a lot of customer interaction, hence lose profits.
