Goose Creek, SC—Quoizel Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled outdoor hanging lanterns due to fall hazards they pose. The CPSC announced the product safety recall, which affects approximately 150 units, on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2010.

The South Carolina-based importer initiated the recall upon discovering that the glass lantern can detach from the top support ring and fall. If a defective outdoor hanging lantern falls, individuals standing in close proximity to it run the risk of suffering injuries. No injuries or adverse incidents have been reported in connection with the recall as of yet.

According to the CPSC news release, “The recall involves outdoor hanging lanterns labeled as “Northridge” in the Quoizel 2009 Catalog with the model number #AGNT1912K. The lantern is made of black aluminum; yellow, orange and white glass; and red, orange and beige agate stones. It is 19.5″ tall and 12″ diameter. The model number is located on the side of the lantern’s box, on a tag attached to the lantern, on the instruction sheet and on the lantern’s ceiling mount.”

The outdoor hanging lanterns were made available for purchase at specialty lighting retain shops and online between June 2008 and January 2008.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially dangerous lanterns and contact Quoizel Inc. toll-free at (877) 316-2589 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET to obtain a free replacement product. Consumers can also find additional information on the company’s website at www.quoizel.com.
