High Point, NC—A hit-and-run driver was arrested after his speeding vehicle crashed into the back of another car Sunday evening, Jan. 9, 2011, leaving a 2-year-old girl in critical condition. The accident, which also sent the toddler’s grandparents to the hospital, occurred along Fairfield Road in High Point, according to information provided by WXII12.

High Point police reported that 40-year-old John Jamie Kennedy, of Sophia, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs when his car rear-ended a Mercury Tracer.

Kennedy, who subsequently fled the scene, was eventually apprehended at a home in Archdale. He faces a slew of charges in connection with the injurious High Point crash, which include “driving while impaired, three counts of hit-and-run, driving with a revoked license, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony serious injury by a motor vehicle.”

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the scene after the wreck to transport the injured toddler and her grandparents to Brenner Children’s Hospital and High Point Regional Hospital, respectively.

While the unidentified grandparents suffered non-life threatening injuries, the child, who also remained unidentified, suffered serious injuries and was listed in critical condition after Sunday’s motor vehicle collision (MVC).

Kennedy was booked into Guilford County Jail and held on $85,100 bail.
