W.R. Grace asbestos trial claims company guilty of causing 200+ deaths in Libby.

Missoula, MT (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The federal government’s lawsuit claiming W.R. Grace & Company executives conspired in violate the Clean Air Act and obstruct justice continues if federal court. Lawyers for the government continue to present their case and argue W.R. Grace’s violations led to more than 200 deaths in Libby plus thousands of asbestos related illnesses. As reported by KBLG News Center out of Missoula, Montana on Monday, April 13, 2009, jurors continued to heard testimony last Friday from a former Libby resident who worked on parcel of land which was mining property of the Grace vermiculite site.

The judge allowed the witness to testify over ruling strong defense council objections. The witness claimed, under oath before the judge and jury, she worked on a farm for a couple who have since developed lung diseases from living on, working around, and breathing in the harmful asbestos fibers present on the contaminated land. She testified she played on the vermiculite contaminated mining tract with her daughter. Vermiculite mining produces asbestos fibers and exposes workers, laborers, and area residents to the harmful air. Asbestos is a known toxin and is not considered safe at any exposure level by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) www.epa.gov. Direct and secondary exposure to asbestos containing products can cause harmful illnesses and cancers like mesothelioma lung cancer.
