Miami, FL — A pilot is dead after a small cargo plane crashed into the side of a house in northwest Miami-Dade County on Monday morning, May 2, 2011. The plane crash occurred at about 8 a.m. at 15735 NW 37th Court, near Opa-Locka Airport, reported Local 10.

The small vintage twin-engine Beechcraft plane had just left the Opa-Locka Airport, when it crashed on its way to the Bahamas.

The pilot reported a problem with his plane before attempting to return to the airport, but instead the plane, which was carrying home supplies and computers, crashed into a home near the airport.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue aviation foam truck from Opa-Locka Airport got to the scene first and extinguished the fire.

Officials reported that it didn’t appear as if the home caught fire, but two vehicles that were parked outside the home were destroyed in the crash.

Officials has been presumed that the pilot had died in the crash, and no one else was aboard the plane at the time.

One person was inside the home when the plane slammed into the house, but they remained uninjured.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the plane crash. The wreckage will be moved to a hangar where the NTSB investigators will examine the plane piece by piece.
