St. Paul, MN — Several people were injured when a Metro Transit bus was hit by a pickup truck that ran a red light in downtown St. Paul on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. The truck wreck occurred at the intersection of 6th and Cedar streets just after 9 a.m., reported the Star Tribune.

The Metro Transit bus was reportedly driving through the intersection during morning rush hour, when a pickup driver ran a red light and hit the bus on its left side. The bus swerved and slammed into the wall of the Alliance Bank Center parking ramp.

Two of the four people in the pickup truck were rushed to the hospital for treatment of injuries, while six bus passengers and the female bus driver were taken to area hospitals for treatment. None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck was cited by police officers for careless driving and no proof of insurance. The bus driver will undergo drug and alcohol testing as part of standard procedure.

It is unknown if the parking ramp suffered structural damage in the wreck.

Investigations are underway.
