Lawyers for grieving Cleveland family settle commuter bus wrongful death claim.
Cleveland, OH(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The Greater Regional Transit Authority (RTA) board approved a $1.7 million wrongful death lawsuit settlement agreement on Tuesday filed by lawyers after a bus hit and killed a Cleveland area man. As reported by the Cleveland Sun, wrongful death attorneys representing the family of a 66 year-old Cleveland man, who was struck in a crosswalk, on September 30, 2008, and later died from the fatal injuries he suffered, entered into a settlement agreement with RTA officials.
According to Cuyahoga County court documents, Miguel Muniz was crossing West Sixth Street at Superior Avenue at 6:15 a.m. Last September when an RTA driver struck him with a commuter bus. Muniz was transported by Cleveland area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to an area hospital where he later died from the injuries he suffered in the crash. Muniz was in the crosswalk and had the right of way at the time of the tragic accident. Cuyahoga County prosecuting attorneys charged the RTA bus driver in criminal court with aggravated vehicular homicide. The $1.775 million wrongful death settlement awaits approval by the Cuyahoga County Probate Court judge.
