Washington, D.C. — Two workers dismantling a crane at the Washington National Cathedral were injured Thursday, September 8, 2011, when it collapsed, reported Fox News.
Details surrounding the work-related accident and how it occurred are under investigation and have not been released.
The crane reportedly damaged a building with the headquarters of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and another with a gift shop. The cathedral itself was not damaged in the accident.
Responding ambulances rushed the two men to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. The crane operator was reportedly treated for minor injuries and was released. The status of the other victim and their identities has not been released.
The massive crane was used to stabilize debris following the August 23 earthquake.
Investigations into the crane accident are underway. Officials with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct an investigation.
