Cameco food distributor recalls almost 80,000 pounds of high risk meats and poultry.
Newark, NJ(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The United States Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) www.fsis.usda.gov, an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) www.usda.gov, which is responsible for ensuring the safety of the nation’s egg, poultry, and meat products, received reports from Cameco, Inc. a Verona, New Jersey, food distributor about possible high risk meat and poultry products. The New Jersey food company and FSIS food safety inspectors issued a Class I recall of about 79,312 pounds of assorted ready-to-eat poultry and meat products. The ready-to-eat foods may have been contaminated with under-processed ham elements after possible contact with machinery surfaces used to process pork products.
The poultry and ham products were sold to a number of distributors in different states under various brand names. The possibly contaminated items were made on May 29, 2009 and June 1, 2009. Wholesalers in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Puerto Rice, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia received shipments of the recalled items.
Federal food safety regulators and Cameco company leaders ordered the consumption and sale of the following recalled food products with either “1583” or “P-18209” USDA establishment numbers should be ceased immediately:
-Cooked ham with water added
-Turkey ham
-White turkey
-Honey ham
-Sliced turkey breast
-Luncheon loaf
-Cotto salami
These Cameco meat and poultry food products have been sold and distributed under the following brands:
Appleton, Bridgeford, Valu Time, Thank You by Cameco, Quality Meats, Red Osgood, Pro’s Ranch, Mrs. Stratton’s, Meijer Brand, Lay’s Classic Meats, IGA, Food Club, Fas Chek, El Primero, and CV Clear Valu.
