Post Office closings are causing havoc around the country, especially in rural areas. There is a solution…

AMPC

Associated Mail & Parcel Centers (AMPC), a trade organization serving the needs of pack and ship stores for 30 years, announces a tested solution to the elimination of Post Offices in communities throughout the United States. AMPC has created the documentation and training needed to seamlessly replace a closed Post Office and restore the missing services that the USPS took away from your town or community.

USPS Approved Shipper Program

Mail & Parcel Stores have been selling Postal services, including the private version of Post Office Boxes for over 100 years. In 2006 the United States Postal Service embraced, authorized, and promoted the reselling of Postal products by private business by establishing the USPS Approved Shipper Program. By working with the private sector to offer more convenient points to process and ship mail, the USPS is counting on these outlets to maintain Postal sales while eliminate costs.

The USPS Approved Shipped Program, with the use of Internet postage, offers postage discounts. These discounts are the same as those offered to very large mailers in the form of Commercial Plus Pricing.

The USPS is offering the Village Post Office concept as another alternative to a local Post Office, but the USPS has limited the services a Village Post Office can offer and does not come close to the reimbursing the cost of operating the service to a local business. While a Village Post Office is not allowed to sell products from other carriers like UPS or FedEx, a USPS Approved Shippers can offer almost all that a Post Office sells. The income reflects the cost plus the earnings for the local business, and they are free to offer services from other carriers.

Commercial Mail Receiving Agents

Commercial Mail Receiving Agents (CMRAs) are private sector locations that offer Private Mail Boxes (PMBs). As a CMRA you set the rental prices and offer enhanced services for your mail boxes. Additional income from renters is available from mail forwarding and other services. CMRAs are regulated by the USPS.

Not only will these additions to a small town or neighborhood business increase foot traffic and ancillary sales, but they have the potential to become a significant profit center generating its own revenue.

AMPC has produced two manuals detailing the processes to become a CMRA and a USPS Approved Shipper. AMPC also offers support and training for USPS Approved Shippers and CMRAs. More information is available at www.replaceyourpostoffice.com and www.ampc.org.
