Maryland Man Ran Over by Skid Loader at New Market Contractor Headquarters

11/15/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

New Market, MD — A deadly workplace accident near New Market left a worker dead when he was run over by a piece of construction equipment. The fatal workplace accident occurred Monday morning, November 14, 2011, reported WTOP.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, David Garcia, 37, was run over by a skid loader at the headquarters of New Market-based contactor Harland J. Shoemaker and Son Inc. Garcia was employed by the contractor at the time of the deadly accident.

A skid loader is a relatively small construction vehicle that can be fitted with various attachments for grading or lifting—much like a Bobcat.

The details of the accident and what led to Garcia being run over by the construction machinery is unknown at this time.

Responding emergency crews rushed Garcia to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead just before 12:30 p.m.

The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health agency is investigating the fatal workplace accident.
