Richfield, MN — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada and Best Buy have voluntarily recalled Rocketfish™ Model RF-KL12 Mobile Battery Cases for iPhone 3G and 3GS for fire hazards the product poses to consumers. The CPSC announced the nationwide product recall on November 30, 2011.
The product recall was issued after discovering that the battery case can overheat while charging, which poses a fire hazard to consumers.
Best Buy and the CPSC have received three reports of minor burns and four reports of minor property damage as a result of the defective product.
“This recall includes the Rocketfish™ Model RF-KL12 Mobile Battery Case. The battery case is made of black lightweight, soft-touch rubberized material designed to hold the phone securely, and comes with a built-in battery. The model number ‘RF-KL12’ appears on the front of the product’s packaging, on the packaging barcode, and in white print on the curved inner surface of the product,” reported the CPSC.
Consumers are advised to contact Best Buy to learn how to return the product in exchange for a $70 Best Buy gift card or $105 gift card for Canada consumers.
