In May of 2012, the Relay for Life will take place in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Thousands of people are expected to participate with the goal of raising funds to help fight and defeat cancer. Rhemila Smith is proud to announce that she’s made a donation to the cause for the second year in a row.
“I plan to actively fundraise and participate in the event in 2013,” says Rhemila Smith. “I want to do more than just make a donation next year, so I plan to make a contribution AND help raise funds as a team member by participating next year.”
The Relay for Life is an annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Teams form and agree to spend 24 hours in constant motion, running around the relay course and earning money for each mile they complete. A series of inspirational events are held throughout the Relay, including a survivor’s walk, a candle-lighting ceremony to honor those who have lost the fight with cancer and a rally to inspire all participants to do their part to defeat cancer.
“It’s an incredibly inspiring event,” says Rhemila Smith. “Once you participate in something like this, you’re motivated to do all you can throughout the year to support the cause of cancer prevention. I can’t wait to participate next year, and I’m happy to do my part to support the cause through my donation.”
Rhemila Smith is a human resources professional who works in Florida. In 2010, Rhemila Smith was recognized as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Leaders of Today and Tomorrow by Success South Florida Magazine. She is a passionate supporter of cancer research and prevention.
