Philadelphia, PA — A construction accident injured a worker outside the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City Monday, February 6, 2012. The work-related accident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. on a sidewalk outside the church located at 17th and Race Streets, reported CBS Philadelphia.
According to reports, Tommy Quinn was in the crane when it suddenly topped over, falling 50 feet onto Race Street.
Quinn, who is employed by Dan Lepore and Sons Company, suffered a possible broken femur and was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital for treatment. Quinn is said to be conscious and alert, although his condition is unknown at this time.
Investigators are not sure why the crane toppled over, but investigations are ongoing. Factors such as wind and uneven pavement may have played a role in the construction accident.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to investigate.
