02/20/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Phoenix, AZ — A work-related accident killed a US Airways employee Friday, February 17, 2012, when he became stuck in the conveyor belt system. The fatal accident occurred at the Sky Harbor International Airport in a luggage conveyor belt area of Terminal 4, reported AZ Family.

US Airways employee Robert Demarco, 60, was working in the luggage conveyor belt area when he become stuck between the upper and lower conveyor belts of the system.

Responding officials from the Phoenix Fire Department pronounced Demarco dead at the scene.

Police say there were no indications of foul play, and is being ruled as a “tragic accident.”

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is examining the victim.

Investigations into the workplace accident and how it occurred are underway.

Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are also expected to launch an investigation.

This isn’t the first incident involving a conveyor belt at the airport. In August, a Sky Harbor worker was rescued after becoming pinned in a baggage carousel conveyor belt.
