Alaska – Musician and conservative activist Ted Nugent is expected to enter a guilty plea at a hearing on Tuesday for illegally killing a black bear and transporting it, a violation of the Lacey Act. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Nugent, who is also an advocate for gun rights, signed a plea deal with federal prosecutors in which he is stated to acknowledge knowingly committing the misdemeanor act in 2009.
Wayne Anthony Ross, an attorney for Nugent in Anchorage Alaska, is quoted by the AP as stating of the case Monday, “It’s kind of embarrassing for him because he practices ethical hunting and advocated ethical hunting and gets caught up in a crazy law that none of us have heard about.”
Nugent will reportedly pay a $10,000 fine and receive a two-year probation sentence in accordance with the plea agreement. He will also be barred for one year from hunting or fishing in Alaska or Forest Service properties, in addition to agreeing to other terms.
