/EINPresswire.com/11 year old Trey Wood, the third-youngest competitor in X Games history is now an advocate for positive youth by helping Uncle Skate Charity and skateboarders worldwide.
Uncle Skate Charity, a leading global charity for underprivileged children with a focus on Skateboarding and education, today announced the addition of Trey Wood to their board of directors as an honorary board member. This follows his recent attendance at the 2012 Summer X-Games in Los Angeles.
“I’m very glad to have Trey Wood joining the board to enhance the development of our charitable efforts” explains fellow board member Chris Kelley. “I have trained with him for several years and have always been impressed by his great attitude and the amazing support from his family. Having him on our board of directors will be extremely valuable for our charity and his international travels will assist in our global mission to help skateboarders worldwide.”
The pinnacle in giving back to the community is kids helping other kids, and Trey Wood is an excellent example of an 11 year showing tremendous leadership at such a young age. Trey Wood’s name made world headlines recently as the 3rd youngest athelete to compete in the extreme sports extravaganza the “X-Games”. Trey Wood’s competition of choice, the Skateboard Mega Ramp, an event that consists of two jumps back to back. The first jump being a 60 foot gap followed by a 30 foot quarter pipe straight into the air, over 40 feet above the earth.
Wood trains extensively for his competitions at Kids That Rip Skateboard School, with over 40,000 sq feet of indoor skate park, it is recognized as one of the most progressive training facilities in the United States. It was custom designed and built by California Ramp Works (builders of the X-Games and Mega Ramp). Located in Mesa, AZ, KTR is under the family umbrella of Desert Devils multi-sports-plex facility, which offers programs for Skateboarding, Gymnastics, and Cheer.
Wood first jumped on a skateboard for the first time at the age of 3 while on a family trip to one of skateboarding’s original hot spots, Venice Beach, CA. He now resides in Arizona where he’s become a local legend due to his recent success as being featured at the X-Games, ESPN sports and the Disney Channel. He started competing at 6. Wood loves to skate the “vert ramp”, and is making a name for himself in street and the mega ramp. In the words of Trey Wood, “I live to skate and skate to live” You will most likely find Wood and his family enjoying a well earned chocolate ice cream break after his practice sessions at Kids That Rip skateboard school.

Uncle Skate is a non-profit charity for skateboarders. Their mission is to donate free skateboards to children all over the world. Uncle Skate is not your typical skateboard charity organization. They connect the world through global contributions of skateboards and equipment. They help children and young adults realize their potential and build their futures. Changing perspectives and lives is what Uncle Skate prides itself on.
Uncle Skate creates a sense of awareness to those less fortunate around the world. They have developed crucial components that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people who receive these skateboards. By collecting and donating skateboards away, Uncle Skate has created pillars that this non-profit follows:
• Allow children in poverished countries to enjoy the creative sport of skateboarding.
• Build self esteem and character through self confidence.
• Create leaders for tomorrow and help kids stay away from drugs and alcohol.
Uncle Skate has created its own philosophy and vision of what it would like to see in the future. A study shows that kids who participate in any type of sport are less likely to consume alcohol, get addicted to drugs, and even less likely to commit a criminal act. That being said, the more skateboards given out the better chance everyone has with the future of our global society.
What Have They Done So Far?
Uncle Skate is fortunate to have donated free skateboards to the following Nations:
Cuba, Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil, Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, United States and Jordan
Uncle Skate is currently working on a 9,000 sq foot skatepark project in Puerto Penasco, Mexico in the northern state of Sonora.
