Joliet, Illinois – The trial of Drew Peterson resumed on Thursday after a judge scolded prosecutors for their conduct on the previous day. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Judge Edward Burmila decided that a mistrial would not be necessary in the high-profile case, after criticizing prosecutors for trying to enter evidence deemed inadmissible.

Burmila, who reprimanded prosecutors after a witness who had been a neighbor of Savio’s testified that he had found a bullet on his driveway and insinuated that it may have been planted as an act of intimidation by Peterson, is quoted by the AP as stating in his ruling, “The court believes that the defendant’s ability to receive a fair trial is not extinguished at this time.”

Peterson is standing trial for the 2004 death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. His fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007. He is a suspect in her disappearance, but has not been charged in connection with her case.
