Phoenix – The mother of a missing Arizona girl has been arrested a second time in connection with the disappearance of her child. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Jerice Hunter, the mother of five-year-old Jhessye Shockley, was arrested at her home Thursday for suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse.
Shockley was reported missing Oct. 11. Her mother purportedly told police she left the child with siblings prior to running an errand. Hunter was arrested in November following the disappearance but the charge of suspicion of child abuse was later dropped.
Hunter, was reportedly indicted by a grand jury the same day as her most recent arrest. The body of Shockley was never found.
Scott Maasen, an attorney for Hunter, is quoted by the AP as stating of the case, “The indictment is not evidence… There is no body in this case. Cases without finding bodies are very difficult cases.”
