Washington, D.C. – Two paint makers have agreed to stop making a disputed advertising claim for some of their paints. As reported by Reuters, the Sherwin-Williams Co and a unit of PPG Industries have settled in a dispute with the Federal Trade Commission regarding the advertisement of some of their paints as containing “zero” harmful chemicals. The FTC stated last week that the companies have agreed to stop advertising the paints with the claim.
Sherwin-Williams spokesman Mike Conway is quoted in the report as stating of the matter via email, “S-W is reviewing its labeling and other marketing information to ensure compliance.”
PPG spokesman, Jeremy Neuhart, is further quoted by Reuters as stating in an email, “PPG is working with the Federal Trade Commission to increase clarity regarding the marketing of low or zero-VOC paints.”
