Long Island, NY – The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) now faces a class action lawsuit in connection with power outages that occurred during Hurricane Sandy. As reported by Reuters, attorney Kenneth Mollins filed the lawsuit in Long Island’s Nassau County Tuesday citing the company was negligent in how they handled power outages in numerous homes affected by the superstorm.
Mollins is quoted by Reuters as stating of the matter in an interview, “Had LIPA even done some of the work suggested by the Public Service Commission, the duration of the outages would have been less, and the damage sustained by homeowners significantly less.”
The recent complaint alleges LIPA failed to provide a replacement for its allegedly outdated management system after flaws had been reportedly documented last year.
