Prison clean-up crew hit by van!

Legal news for North Carolina personal injury attorneys. A prison guard and three inmates were struck by a van along U.S. 501.

North Carolina Highway Patrol alerts North Carolina personal injury attorney- A Dodge van hit a North Carolina Dept. of Corrections prison guard and inmates.

Durham, NC—A North Carolina Department of Corrections prison guard, and three Caswell Correctional Center inmates were injured after a van slammed into them while they were on clean-up duty along U.S. 501. The incident happened on Tuesday morning, September 22, 2009 around 9:40 a.m., near Roxboro, as reported by the Person County Life.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Three inmates were reportedly collecting trash along the southbound lanes of U.S. 501, when a van struck the prisoners and the prison guard. It is unknown how the 2009 Dodge van, driven by Mark Lovelace Crabtree, 27, of Alton, Virginia hit the prisoners and the guard. The prison guard, David Reaves, 47, of Yanceyville, and inmate Lamont Hampton, 25, were injured in the collision. They were both transported by Person County emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Durham Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Two other inmates, Maurice Smothers, 29, and Remarto Rodgers, 38, were also transported by Person County EMS crews to Person Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuried. It is unknown if Crabtree was also injured in the collision. Police officials are reportedly conducting a full investigation into the crash. At this time no charges have been filed in connection with the wreck.
