New Jersey – A New Jersey woman has won $3.35 million in a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson after being injured by a vaginal mesh implant made by the company. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the award is said to be the first verdict in a string of lawsuits that have been filed against the manufacturing giant in connection with the implant, which has been linked to a number of health complications for female patients who have had them implanted across the country.
Sheri Woodruff, spokeswoman for J&J’s Ethicon Surgical Care subsidiary, is quoted by the AP as saying in a statement, “While we are always concerned when a patient experiences medical conditions like those suffered by the plaintiff, all surgeries for pelvic organ prolapse present risks of complications.”
As noted in the report, Johnson & Johnson ceased sales of its Prolift vaginal mesh implant last year due to a high volume of related lawsuits.
