Kentucky – A judge has approved a $40 million settlement between consumers and Skechers USA Inc. over claims it made in advertising its toning shoes. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the class-action settlement was approved by U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell in Louisville on Monday.
The settlement covers over a purported 500,000 claims, allowing those whose claims are approved to receive a reimbursement for their purchase. The attorneys in the case were also awarded $5 million to split. The lead plaintiffs in the case will receive $2,500 each.
Skechers was accused of making unfounded claims about its toning shoes including that they help in weight loss and strengthening.
Russell is quoted by the AP as writing in his decision, “Accordingly, the court finds that the proposed settlement is fair, reasonable and adequate.”
