Beijing, China – An abandoned baby was rescued from a sewage pipe in eastern China early this week. As reported by Reuters, the child was found in the pipe, directly beneath a toilet commode, in a residential building and removed by firefighters following reports by residents that they heard a baby crying.
According to ABC news, one news source, reported that authorities identified the mother as a 22-year-old unmarried woman, following a search for the child’s parents after the rescue. Another source claims she confessed to keeping her pregnancy a secret and giving birth over a toilet after being confronted by police.
The child, identified as Baby 59, is stated to now be in stable condition.
