San Francisco – The pilot involved in an Asiana Airlines plane crash on Saturday was landing a Boeing 777 at San Francisco International Airport for the first time. As reported by CNN, although the pilot Lee Kang-gook was making his first landing with the plane in the city, he had flown to San Francisco several times prior and had 43 hours of experience flying a Boeing 777.
The plane crashed on the airport runway killing two people and injuring 182 others. The bodies of the two dead were identified as Ye Mengyuan and Wang Linjia, both 16-year-old Chinese nationals.
Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. Deborah Hersman, National Transportation Safety Board head, is quoted by CNN as stating of continuing investigations, “I would discourage anyone from drawing any conclusions at this point.”
