The Grant High School Class of 1963 will hold its 50th reunion on Saturday, August 10th at Portland’s Red Lion on the River. The event is shaping up to be one of the biggest 50th reunions in the school’s history, with some major long-distance travel not deterring several hundred classmates and guests from getting back together to celebrate their milestone anniversary. Grads from the Portland area will be joined by classmates from Europe and nearly 20 U.S. states—from Alaska to Florida, New York to California, and every region in-between.

“It is heartwarming to see so many members of a class reunite after half a century,” said Bob Stayton, President of the Grant High Alumni Association (www.grantalumni.org). “All of our alumni are very loyal to the school and our annual class reunions really help demonstrate the true Grant spirit.”

Classmates plan to reconnect and reminisce while enjoying an evening of fun, food, music, and dancing. Alumni and guests will check in at 5:30 pm for a cocktail hour, to be followed by a group photo session before the reunion dinner. August 7th is the deadline for reserving reunion tickets and grads can register online at the Classic Reunions website (www.classicreunions.com) or by calling 503.626.3669 (or 800.474.3669 toll free).

The Saturday night celebration will be preceded by a Class of ’63 Blue & Gray Golf Tourney at the Heron Lakes Golf Club at 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon, August 9th. The tournament is open to all members of the class (including golfers who may be a little out of practice) and those interested in participating should contact Tony Wolters, Reunion Golf Chair, at 918.852.2127 or twolters@wolterssearch.com.

ABOUT THE GRANT CLASS OF 1963

As Oregon’s largest high school in the 1960s, Grant was known for its sizable graduating classes, with 600 to 700 seniors receiving diplomas each year. The Class of 1963 was no exception; over 600 seniors—along with some 2,000 family members, friends, and teachers—participated in commencement ceremonies at the Portland Civic Auditorium on the evening of Thursday, June 6, 1963.
