Kansas – The Kansas Supreme Court suspended former state Attorney General Phill Kline’s law license indefinitely on Friday. As reported by Reuters, Kline was determined to have violated 11 rules of professional conduct when prosecuting abortion providers.
The court is quoted by the AP as writing in a 154-report, “The violations we have found are significant and numerous, and Kline’s inability or refusal to acknowledge or address their significance is particularly troubling in light of his service as the chief prosecuting attorney for this state and its most populous county.”
Kline, 53, held the attorney general position from 2003-2007. He is known as having an outspoken stance against abortion. A recommendation was set forth two years ago by the Kansas Board of Discipline for Attorneys to suspend Kline’s license for “unethical conduct.”
The court is further quoted as stating in its decision, “We conclude indefinite suspension is the appropriate discipline… Kline’s selfish motive; his pattern of misconduct; and his refusal to acknowledge the wrongful nature of any of his misconduct.”
Kline can reapply for his license in three years.
