Iowa – A University of Iowa pharmaceutical lab has been sued by a pharmacist claiming she sustained a personal injury by a trial drug. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the lawsuit has cost the school mounting legal fees to contest the claims made by Cynthia Wong, a clinical pharmacist at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
Wong claims in the suit that she was injured while unpacking a box of drugs that emitted a vapor. The box reportedly contained vials of sodium chlorite. Wong’s attorney, Alan Zacharin, is quoted by the AP as stating of her injuries, “She suffered a real injury from a real physical substance that came out of that box.”
Wong’s lawsuit asserts that safety defects in the substance’s design, manufacturing, packaging and shipment caused her injuries.
Sharp Corp., which processed the box, and Neuraltus have also been named in the lawsuit in addition to UI Pharmaceuticals.
