Los Angeles – The woman known as “Octomom,” Nadya Suleman, has been charged with welfare fraud in California. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office announced on Monday that the charges had been brought against her for allegedly failing to report income earned while collecting public assistance.
Suleman, who has 14 children, was charged with three counts of welfare fraud and has been ordered to appear in court on Friday.
The district attorney’s office is quoted by the AP as saying of Suleman in a statement, “While applying for public aid, the mother of 14 children allegedly failed to disclose that she was also getting checks for personal appearances and residuals from videos.”
If convicted of the charges, Suleman may be sentenced to almost six years in prison.
