Florida – The nonprofit Family Law Reform is pushing for a revision of the alimony laws in Florida. As reported by the Miami Herald, as part of the effort, the group recently promoted a documentary about the issue, “Divorce Corp,” which played at the Zephyrhills Cinema 10 this week.
The organization’s president Alan Frisher, is quoted as stating of the film’s screenings, “We’re trying to educate people that reform is absolutely necessary…People are getting hurt by the system. We have to do something about it.”
A 2013 measure for alimony reform sought to end permanent alimony and cap payments based on certain factors in its provisions. The controversial bill was passed in the state House and Senate, but was vetoed by Gov. Rick Scott. Family Law Reform is seeking to build support for reform efforts prior to the beginning of the new legislative session.
