Florida – Following a decision by the Florida Supreme Court, voters in the state will be allowed to vote on a measure pertaining to the legalization of medical marijuana. As reported by the Miami Herald, the court knocked down an objection to a constitutional amendment that Gov. Rick Scott and others say would mislead voters in the Nov. 4 elections.

The court is quoted as stating in its 4-3 ruling, “Voters are given fair notice as to the chief purpose and scope of the proposed amendment, which is to allow a restricted use of marijuana for certain ‘debilitating’ medical conditions… We therefore reject the opponents’ assertion that the amendment ‘would allow far wider marijuana use than the ballot title and summary reveal.”

Passage of the amendment, which is being pushed by the citizens’ group People United for Medical Marijuana, requires 60 percent of the vote.
