California – Actor Hank Azaria recently proved victorious a lawsuit filed over a character in the animated television comedy “The Simpsons.” As reported by The Wrap, a judge granted Azaria a motion for summary judgment last week in the case in which Azaria accused another actor of falsely claiming ownership of the show’s sportscaster Jim Brockmire character.
Azaria, who provides the voice for multiple “Simpsons” characters including Brockmire, filed the lawsuit in 2012 asserting that fellow actor Craig Bierko’s claims jeopardized a potential movie deal.
An attorney for Bierko had reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to Azaria in 2011 regarding use of the Brockmire character. Judge Gary Allen Feess recently determined; however, that Azaria and How to Pictures, Inc. owned the copyright of it and that the character Bierko purportedly created would not, “serve to distinguish Sports Announcer Character from any actual baseball announcer sitting in the booth on given game day.”
