Las Vegas – A man who claims he lost $500,000 gambling at a Las Vegas casino while heavily intoxicated has filed a lawsuit over the debt. As reported by Reuters, the man, Mark Johnston, claims he was served about 20 free drinks after arriving at the Downtown Grand casino drunk.
Johnston was reportedly given a credit line of $250,000 prior to his arrival and additional credit while gambling. The casino has been accused in the lawsuit of negligence and reckless endangerment and other wrongdoing.
The lawsuit, which is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages in addition to having the debt erased, is quoted as stating, “Mr. Johnston, an experienced gambler, was dropping chips on the floor, confusing chip colors and slurring his speech badly, and he was unable to read his cards or set his hands properly.”
According to gaming regulations in Nevada, casinos are barred from allowing guests who appear visibly intoxicated to continue gambling.
