Philadelphia – The Philadelphia Inquirer is being sued by Supreme Court Justice Seamus P. McCaffery and his wife Lise Rapaport over an alleged “smear campaign.” As reported by the Philadelphia Business Journal, the complaint filed in the Court of Common Pleas, alleges the Inquirer ran multiple articles stating Rapaport had been paid for referrals of clients to personal injury law firms.
Court documents in the suit are quoted as reading, “The March publication is false, incomplete, and contrary to Pennsylvania law.
“The Defendants, seeking to boost sagging readership and interest, published this article knowing that they were placing the Plaintiffs in false light, falsely accusing them of illegal and unethical behavior, and falsely reporting the true nature of Plaintiff Rapaport’s referral fees and Plaintiff McCaffery’s role as a Justice on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The article was intentionally false, misleading and deliberately incomplete.”
