Ireland – The remains of hundreds of babies have been found in a septic tank at a place that previously housed unwed mothers. As reported by The Washington Post, the bodies of nearly 800 abandoned children were found where a castle called the Home used to sit in the western Ireland town of Tuam.

The Home, ran by the Bon Secours nuns, was in operation from 1925 to 1961. Thousands of women who had out-of-wedlock pregnancies lived there in indentured servitude. It was subsequently closed and destroyed. The location is now home to a housing development and children’s playground.

The findings of the remains of the children are being investigated by authorities. Some locals say more bodies will likely also be discovered as police continue the investigation. An anonymous source is quoted as stating to the Daily Mail, “God knows who else is in the grave… It’s been lying there for years, and no one knows the full extent of the total of bodies down there.”
