Arizona – An Arizona inmate whose execution lasted two hours gasped and snorted during the process, attorneys say. As reported by CNN, Joseph Wood’s lawyer says his client struggled to breathe for over an hour and a half, and died two hours after his execution began.
Wood, who was convicted of murder and assault in connection with the deaths of his former girlfriend and her father, was executed Wednesday morning.
Wood’s attorney Dale Baich is quoted by CNN as releasing the statement, “It took Joseph Wood two hours to die, and he gasped and struggled to breath for about an hour and 40 minutes. We will renew our efforts to get information about the manufacturer of drugs as well as how Arizona came up with the experimental formula of drugs it used today.”
Baich further stated, “Arizona appears to have joined several other states who have been responsible for an entirely preventable horror — a bungled execution.”
