Florida Highway Patrol investigates crash involving SUV that left two dead, two injured.

Wesley Chapel, FL—An infant was tragically killed in a head-on collision in Wesley Chapel, Florida, around 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010. The motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, also known as State Road 581, according to information provided by Tampa Bay Online.

It was reported that a southbound 2010 Cadillac sport utility vehicle (SUV), driven by 67-year-old Raul Bertran Jr., crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons. A northbound 2004 Honda, driven by 20-year-old Nadine Maldonado was traveling on State Road 581, at the same time as the Cadillac, when the luxury car veered into northbound lanes. The Honda was consequently struck head on by the wrong-way driver.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) allegedly reported that Bertran Jr., the Cadillac driver, was pronounced dead at the scene of the horrible wreck. Emergency medical services (EMS) teams responded to the scene to transport Maldonado, as well as the two passengers occupying the Honda, 25-year-old Simon Dominguez and one-year-old Jaylin Dominguez to St. Joseph’s Hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. Jaylin’s injuries unfortunately proved fatal after she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Nadine Maldonado and Simon Dominguez reportedly sustained serious injuries in the motor vehicle accident. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
