Virginia – A sheriff’s deputy who mistook his teenage daughter for a home intruder, shot the 16-year-old by mistake. As reported by The Washington Post, the man then crashed his vehicle while trying to race her to get medical help.
According to Capt. Donnie Lang of the Frederick sheriff’s office, a security alarm was set off at the home of Easton McDonald, a sergeant with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, prior to the incident. McDonald, who thought his family was inside asleep, reportedly responded to the alarm. Believing someone had broken into the garage after hearing noises coming from outside, he is stated to have then retrieved his privately owned gun.
Lang is quoted as stating of McDonald’s actions after seeing someone come towards him, “At that particular point, he discharges his firearm and strikes the person in the torso area… Then he hears her voice and recognizes that it’s his daughter.”
McDonald’s daughter was taken from the scene of the car crash by emergency responders, and has been listed in stable condition. Neither of the two were injured in the crash.
