Nevada – A Nevada trucking company may be required to pay millions over a fatal Amtrak crash that occurred in 2011. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Amtrak was awarded $4.5 million by a federal jury in Reno for damages linked to a crash involving a John Davis Trucking Co. truck.
One of the company’s trucks reportedly hit the side of a passenger train while at a rural crossing. The crash resulted in the deaths of six people and injury to multiple others.
The jury’s award was placed on hold by U.S. District Judge Howard McKibben while the addition of $1 million in interest and attorney’s fees to the award is being considered. Union Pacific Railroad was also awarded $210,777.
The driver of the truck and a train conductor were among those killed in the accident.
