Irving – A former Grapevine police officer has been indicted on multiple charges after admitting to taking K-9 training narcotics. The Dallas Morning News reports that Danny Macchio, ?49, was indicted on charges of tampering with physical evidence, misuse of government property, and abuse of official capacity after confessing to taking the narcotics, some of which he said he ingested.
According to Grapevine police, the officer used the case of drugs, which included methamphetamine, Ecstasy, heroin, and cocaine, during training with his dog.
The arrest came after Macchio reported a burglary of his patrol vehicle in October to Fort Worth police, initially claiming that the narcotics and a personal firearm were missing from the vehicle. He later admitted to having taken the drugs and surrendered the missing case and his firearm to police.
The Grapevine police department placed Macchio on administrative leave in October; however, he has since resigned.
The evidence tampering charge is a third degree felony.
