Virginia – A controversial guardrail that was subjected to federally mandated crash tests after claims that it contributed to the deaths and injuries of dozens of people will again be crash tested. ABC News reported that the state of Virginia is planning the testing as part of an investigation into the highway product’s safety.

The news source says that a document it obtained indicates that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has been working out details to begin the tests on the system developed by Trinity Industries’ ET-Plus in the middle of September.

The tests will follow claims by accident victims that the guardrail has a design flaw, posing risks to motorists if struck by another vehicle from the front.

Marshall Herman, a spokesperson for VDOT, stated to ABC News that the agency “has decided to move forward with a plan to conduct additional crash tests.”

Herman further said in a statement, “Everything the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) does is for the single purpose of looking out for the safety of the motoring public.”
