Ohio – Two additional lawsuits have been filed against drug maker GlaxoSmithKline alleging Zofran is linked to birth defects. The Legal Examiner reported that the plaintiffs filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division.
The lawsuits allege that the anti-nausea drug was promoted by the company as safe and effective for the treatment of morning sickness. The drug; however, was allegedly never studied for use during pregnancy.
The plaintiffs allege that their children were exposed to the alleged risks associated with Zofran, which caused them to develop heart defects.
A reported 34 patients have filed legal claims against GlaxoSmithKline claiming their children had suffered birth defects due to the anti-nausea drug.
Zofran was approved to treat nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing chemotherapy.
